Castlegate House Gallery is situated on the ground floor of a splendid and untouched Grade II* listed 18th Century Georgian house in the centre of the thriving Lakeland town of Cockermouth.
We’re nothing if not passionate about 20th century and contemporary British art, fuelled by considerable years of obsessive art collecting prior to becoming gallery owners many years ago (we still continue with a collector's passion today). Our aim is to fuel that passion in others and exhibit only what we can genuinely be enthusiastic and passionate about.
We specialise in internationally renowned artists such as Leon Kossoff, Sheila Fell, Ivon Hitchens, David Hockney, Frank Auerbach, Grayson Perry, Mary Fedden, Winifred Nicholson and Norman Cornish, amongst many others. We also aim to bring to the gallery exciting up and coming young talented artists including Katya Granova, William Reinsch, Louis Appleby, Alice Campbell and Alex Hain.
We also have a passion for British ceramics, and as well as early Leach and Winchcombe examples, we bring to the gallery some of the best Studio Pottery in the UK, including the likes of William Plumptre, Jim Malone and Edward Hughes
Cockermouth is a splendid western Lakeland town, filled with small independent shops and places to visit, including the world renowned Wordsworth House, the National Trust owned birthplace of William Wordsworth We look forward to welcoming you to Cockermouth and the gallery.
