Circa 1975
Teatime was painted at Winifred Nicholson’s house Bankshead, in Cumbria, where she was based for most of her life and where she painted from many different rooms. Teatime was painted in the spacious and light room she used both as a dining room and sitting room, with large windows overlooking her garden with its plum trees in blossom and views of the north Pennines in the distance.
Ex collection of James Fairfax A.C. All Saints, Dorset. Purchased 1990 Crane Kalman Gallery, London
To the reverse of the painting is another by Winifred, typical of her work in the mid to late 1970s.
