A wonderful and imposing composition depicting cottages in snow under the shadow of Esgair Felen, Eryri (Snowdonia); the title "Gwastadnant" (written verso) relates to the village nestling at the foot of Snowdonia.
Provenance:
Gifted by Sir Kyffin to Witold Kay Korzeniewicz, a Polish architect who flew with the RAF in WWII and then taught with Sir Kyffin at Highgate School. Circa 1970, Sir Kyffin asked Witold to design a studio for him on his return to Ynys Mon and Sir Kyffin gave the painting to Witold in lieu of payment. Witold sadly died in 1988 and in 2005 his widow offered the painting to a long friends of her and her husband, the soon to be new custodians also being joint friends/acquaintances of Sir Kyffin. Sir Kyffin valued the picture for private sale and the new owners purchased the painting in 2005, it remaining in their ownership until very recently.
