1929 - 2001. Born in Halifax, West Yorkshire, Derek attended Blackpool School of Art, 1946–50, then Regional College of Art in Manchester, 1950–1. Post war he taught in the department of art and design at Stockport College of Technology, latterly senior lecturer in charge of foundation studies until 1989. Wilkinson was a member of the Manchester Academy of Fine Art, also exhibiting several times at the Royal Academy of Art, London and the Laing, Newcastle. Derek Wilkinson had numerous solo exhibitions during his career both in London and the provincies, with public galleries in Oldham, Salford and Stockport holding his works within their permanent collections in addition to the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool.
