Norman Cornish and Bill Bell

Firstly, we’ve this week acquired a collection of four large and top-tier works by the late Norman Cornish from a private collection. Three of the works we sold in 2015 and are delighted to acquire them once again. As I type, one of the four has already sold, but the three differing takes on the Pit Road are ready for their next custodians. The Pit Road is something Norman walked along each day for over thirty years, as he walked from his home in Spennymoor to the near-by pit at Ferryhill, some three miles away. Quite exemplary examples of Norman’s work. All may be seen in our New Work section of the website.
This time next week we’ll be emailing to announce the online listing for our forthcoming exhibition of twenty six works by the late Cumbrian artist, Bill Bell. The doors will open to the physical exhibition on Saturday 8th March. There are some very special paintings, all of which we acquired from one private collection in London in January. Many are depictions of life in and around Barrow, Cumbria in the 1970s to 1990s, with for me the stand-out piece, which is a true piece of social history, being Show of Hands, Vickers, Barrow from the 1970s; a magnificent painting.
Bill’s works also encompass visits to Wales and London, with the painting shown here, View over Battersea another stand-out work.
More of Bill Bell next week.
All for now,
Steve and Christine
