New acquisitions and the London Art Fair
1st January, 2024
1st January, 2024
Well a happy new year to one and all.
We ended the year on the acquisition trail right up until the 31st, see Latest Works for our latest finds. Included is a wonderful Paul Nash / Eric Ravilious-like painting by the late Edgar Hereford, a painting of a yet to be located town near Collioure in Southern France, when there with Rennie Mcintosh in 1922.
Several of the new works will be going with us to the London Art Fair, which opens its doors again from the 16th to 21st January. It’s probably our favourite art fair and one we’ve exhibited at now for many years; it’s a great way to kickstart the art-year for us. We have a limited number of complimentary tickets remaining, so should you wish to attend, just let us know and we’ll email over the means to register.
We’ll proudly be exhibiting a newly acquired work by the late Joash Woodrow; perhaps one of his most compelling and important paintings. The portrait of his brother, Saul, circa 1965 is a wonderfully attention-grabbing face-on portrait with excellent exhibition provenance.
Also destined for London will be this even heavier impasto painting from 1960 by Robert Organ. It depicts his wife and infant son, being towel-dried after his bath. This is a painting we’ve lived with at home for several years, being fortunate enough to speak with Robert and his wife about the painting before the latter’s death in June last year. As the saying goes, when an art dealer, eventually everything ends up being for sale; rightly or wrongly, that’s generally a truism.
Lastly, due to London Art Fair attendance, travel and planning, the gallery will be closed from Saturday 13th to Saturday 20th, inclusive. We remain, as always, contactable at almost any time by phone, email or social media.
All for now,
Steve and Christine
