LAPADA Fair, Paula Rego and Norman Cornish

12th October, 2024

LAPADA Fair

The art fair season continues apace; from 22nd to 27th October, we’ll be exhibiting at the LAPADA Fair on Berkeley Square, Mayfair. We have a number of complimentary tickets available, so please do let us know if you’d like to attend. We’ll be exhibiting works by artists including Frank Auerbach, David Hockney, Keith Vaughan, Anthony Whishaw and Elizabeth Blackadder, amongst many more including some of our most recent acquisitions; we may even have a large work on paper by Andy Warhol to show, delivery logistics permitting. Maybe our focal-work at the fair will be a fabulous and important large pastel by late Paula Rego (RA). Mouth Organ was produced in 2003 and has impeccable exhibition and publication provenance; a truly top-tier work that we’ll be very proud to showcase.

Recent Acquisitions

As usual, we’ve been busy around the UK finding and acquiring works for the gallery, shown in our New Work section. I’m particularly a little in love with Young Woman in Yellow by Trevor Makinson from 1955; it’s just the most perfect balance of composition, tone and palette that screams the era. It’s tender without sentimentality. Sublime.

Norman Cornish exhibition

Our fourth exhibition in conjunction with the Norman Cornish estate will open its doors on the 9th November and run until the 30th. The exhibition, titled A Self Portrait of a Thought after a quote from Norman describing the nature of his work, showcases thirty-five never-before-seen works and will go live online and in catalogue form from Tuesday 29th October, at which point we’ll email out links to the exhibition and the digital page-turning version of the catalogue. Interest in Norman and his work continues to grow, with a quite wonderful focused and very well curated exhibition at the Bowes Museum currently on. Kith and Kinship explores the works of both Norman and L S Lowry, both of whom exhibited at the Stone Gallery in Newcastle in the 1960s and 70s. If you can go, do so, it’s really worth the trip.

All for now,

Steve and Christine

p.s. the physical gallery may have reduced opening times during the course of the LAPADA Fair, please check the website prior if planning on call in
