A Spring Mix

It’s been glorious this week in the Lakes, although we missed out on the Monday splendour as we spent the day rehanging the Castlegate walls after our successful exhibition of works by Bill Bell concluded. The gallery is now hung with A Spring Mix, many of which may be seen by clicking on the image. New contemporary works by the talented Alice Campbell bring a blast of colour to the Castlegate walls.
Also adding some wall-colour are four paintings by the late June Bennett, mostly of and around Port Carlisle, which was her home with fellow artist Michael for many decades.
We also have three paintings by the late Sheila Fell (RA) on display, hot on the heels of the most wonderful Tullie (House) exhibition in Carlisle, which is soon to open in Sunderland for leg-two.
Added to this we have paintings on show by Joan Eardley, Dame Elizabeth Blackadder, seminal works by Norman Cornish and ceramics by William Plumptre (including two newly-fired “statement pieces”) and Jim Malone, amongst many others. We also have a sprinkling of works on view within our Mid Century Modern Alternatives selection, 20th century works we come across on our travels at more affordable price points.
Looking forward, on the 17th May we’ll fling open the doors to the first solo exhibition for Craig Simpson – "Our Sanctuary; the familiar and the absurd" is a twenty-painting body of work created over the last eighteen months. We truly mean this when we say we have seldom been as affected by a group of paintings as we were when we recently went to collect all from Craig. It is without doubt exceptional and we really just want to get it hung in-gallery now; patience.
All for now,
Steve and Christine
